Nick Turvey is an artist interested in the pattern and structure of the natural world, with a background in architecture and film making. He is currently working on several large-scale sculptures commissioned for buildings and public spaces.
"I'm fascinated by the phenomena of vibration and transparency, making use of materials with optical properties, the distortion of light that acts like another dimension of space. I tend to see my work in terms of experiments in natural philosophy; a dialogue between contemporary scientific research and primitive, antiquated or heretical ideas."
His work for St. Helen's is a wall mounted sculpture that draws on studies of waves and bubbles, embodying the ordered complexity of nature in a form designed to promote contemplation and relaxation.
